recipe: delicious GF breakfast bowl

Out of all the yummy food I have access to (i.e. working at a natural food co-op, my garden, having lots of friends with beautiful, green thumbs, local farms galore, etc.) it would be silly for me to pass up preparing a colorful dish each and every day. But I do, for some reason or another, and it’s usually some time restraint excuse. But that stops here.  There is one food bowl I love to create and have decided to make it as much as foodly possible. It is a sweet and scrumptious GF breakfast bowl! I definitely go in phases of getting really into breakfast bowls and really out of breakfast bowls. But every time I reintroduce it, I suddenly remember how it is so simple, delicious, inexpensive, super bright, and colorful! And it makes me feel great.

Introducing the GF bowl!

The GF bowl is my alter-ego version of a traditional fruit and granola bowl — and it is always a treat to put together! I like to think of the “GF Bowl” as short for “The Girlfriend Bowl”, because it is loaded with sweetness and leaves me feeling super wonderful — just like girlfriends! And what a perfect way to start your day! ;D

The GF is ever evolving. It is a medley of what I have in my kitchen, but the end product is always so beautiful, fresh, and fantastic (again, like girlfriends!)

I use various nuts, seeds, spices, and in-season fruits…but it is plum season right now, folks! There are currently lots of plums, pluots, melons, and figs at the Co-op, and if you’re lucky enough to have a few plum trees in your yard, you should have plums galore right about now! My super awesome boss brought in a basket of ripe yellow plums from her orchard for the office to enjoy, so I grabbed a couple to snack on….and now I’m hooked! I’m also hooked on the Dapper Dandy Pluots, currently at the Co-op, which have a deep ruby-red flesh — a beautiful sight indeed!

Yesterday morning, my bowl was plum and apricot inspired, with some fresh, plump blueberries Sylvan and I picked last weekend.

GF #1 medley of ingredients:
One yellow plum, sliced
A handful of dried apricots, chopped
A handful of freshly frozen blueberries, which adds a refreshingly, chilled texture to the mix
A spoonful of raw Manitoba Harvest Hemp Seeds
3/4 cup whole milk yogurt
1 cup oats, soaked in cold water for 15 minutes or so and drained
A small handful of granola
a shake of cinnamon
a drizzle of honey

This morning, my GF bowl was loaded with even more pluots and fresh fruit after a grocery shop yesterday. SO GOOD! Here is the medley for Girlfriend Bowl #2
